North Georgia Mopar Club About the North Georgia Mopar Club History of the Club 1990 – 2012, Twenty-Two Years of MOPAR Fun! Art Upchurch, President Emeritus The North Georgia Mopar Club was formed in July 1990 by a group of guys dedicated to the preservation, restoration and enjoyment of all Chrysler products and orphans. This group included Art Upchurch (our first president), Curtis French, Jon Snyder and Steve Causey. This club was formed as a family oriented organization which it always has been, and will be! The club's first event was a Cruise-In on the evening of August 26, 1990 at the corner of Lawrenceville Hwy and Arcado Road in Lilburn. There were 10 members present with some great cars, including a '67 Charger Hemi, a '72 Duster 340, a '76 Cordoba and more classics! The club started their monthly, 3rd Sunday Cruise-In and business meeting on February 20th, 1994. A tradition that has continues throughout the years. The NGMC Today Today, we are a group of between 300 and 350, depending on the membership rolls, Mopar enthusiast who enjoy getting together, driving and showing off our Mopar iron throughout the year. We hold several events and Picnics throughout the year, beginning in early March with our "MOPARS at the Galaxy" Cruise-In & Show. Then it's time for our Spring Picnic at a local State Park somewhere in the North Georgia area. Next we hold our annual Cruise-in to the Hayes Family Dealership in May. Then we all pitch in to support our Hero Fund at the Hot August Nights Cruise-In at Summit Racing in McDonough. Soon to follow that will be the Annual Landmark Mopar Southern Classic the second weekend of September, this is fast becoming the funnest all Mopar event in the Southeast with multiple Speedway Cruise for the participants. October is Fall Picnic time, and then we get to November . . . a fun packed month for sure! We host a cruise to the Mopar's with Big Daddy Show in Ocala Florida, then in mid November we get together to catch the leaves turning and burn some rubber on Mountain roads as we host the Mopar Mountain Cruise through the north Georgia mountains. Our last major event of the year is our annual "Toys for Tots" Cruise-In at the Galaxy Diner. In 2009, we collected 227 toys and $667 in donations at this fun event! Did I mention that we have monthly meetings at the Galaxy Diner in Tucker were we all get together and check out what we are working on and swap lies and stories, not to mention holding a short meeting. We just added a cruise to Welborn's Muscle Car Museum in Alabama for June. Now on to the good things we do for our community . . . we are more than just a bunch of car guys and motor heads we actually put our annual dues and our annual Mopar show revenue to good use. In 2009, we gave over $13,000 to charities We offer two annual $500 scholarships to members and their families to be given away late in the year. In addition we regularly give away several thousand dollars to charities the club supports; such as Angel Flight of Georgia, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Rainbow Village, and the Victory Junction Gang. Our favorite charity is the one our past president Mike Zappia started which is the "Hero Fund" where members Joe and Dinah Suchy purchase, box and ship "goody" boxes to the troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. So far our club has sent 80 boxes at a cost of approximately $200 each to our men and women overseas. So as you see we are more than just a bunch of car nuts we really try to turn some of our good fortune into good works for those that need a hand and those that fight to preserve our freedoms in far away lands. In addition to all of that, we write and distribute a monthly newsletter to all our members about what is happening in our Mopar community and coming events as well as a want-ads section for Mopar cars, trucks and parts. You will not find a better group of guys and gals who all have a common interest to hang out with, so, with that if you like the Mopar hobby and you like to drive them as well as work on them, join us and you will not be disappointed. ? 2010 North Georgia Mopar Club All rights reserved Home | Privacy/Terms | Contacts Website Maintained byBob & Norma Boedeker Similar Website
